Leading the fight against cyber crime

Leading the fight against cyber crime

Here at Holker IT, we have long been committed to fighting business crime in the county.

We have further strengthened that vow after teaming up with the Lancashire Partnership against Crime (LANPAC) – a unique collaboration between Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire Businesses and Public Services working together to reduce levels of crime and disorder across the county.

Set to celebrate our 10th anniversary in April, Holker IT is now recognised as a cyber security specialist and the firm recently earned accolades for its innovative presentation on the subject at a high-profile business event organised by LANPAC and held at Ribby Hall.

Wendy Walker, vice chairman for LANPAC, said: “We are delighted to welcome Holker IT onboard. They clearly understand the dangers of cyber crime and we have already invited them to share their expertise and experiences at another major conference next month.”

Holker IT managing director Matthew Metcalfe said: “Every day we see first-hand just how much local firms are being hit with the potentially devastating effects of cyber attack. We have already worked closely with Lancashire Constabulary and it is great to be invited to team up with LANPAC.”

Holker prove Jewel in the Crown for Fujitsu!

It certainly isn’t every day that you get the opportunity to enjoy canapés beside the Crown Jewels and a feast within the Tower of London…

However, that’s exactly what our Managing Director Matthew Metcalfe was treated to by one of the world’s leading technology specialists!

Around 20 delegates from Fujitsu’s most valued partners congregated in the capital for the Japanese giants’ 10th annual Channel Executive Dinner.

The guests were privy to a private tour of the world famous landmark, including an exclusive viewing of the Crown Jewels, before being wined and dined in the Tower itself.

Holker IT MD, Matthew Metcalfe, said: “We had a fabulous evening in truly unique surroundings. It was great to build relations with other partners and I can only see our relationship with Fujitsu going from strength to strength.”

Amy Simpson, Channel Marketing Manager for Fujitsu UK, said: “It was wonderful to get all of our valued partners together and we look forward to another successful year.”

Many Lancashire businesses could face ruin during the coming year due to the growing threat of Cyber Crime.

That was one of the eye-watering realities highlighted by East Lancashire cyber security specialists Holker IT at a special conference on the subject organised by Lancashire Constabulary and held at Ribby Hall Village.

Holker IT was the only technology firm to speak at the prestigious event, which attracted close on 200 business people from across the county.

The attendees were enthralled by Holker IT’s interactive presentation and managing director Matthew Metcalfe said: “We showcased a real-life cyber attack, highlighting some of the problems businesses can face if they fail to take out the necessary level of protection. It was good to hear such positive feedback, both from business leaders and the event organisers themselves.

“Being invited by Lancashire Constabulary to speak at such a prestigious event was a great honour and further testament to the work we do in relation to fighting cyber crime.”

Lancashire Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw, who opened the conference, said: “Cyber Crime is a massive issue and it is of paramount importance that all businesses are aware of the scale of the threat and act accordingly. The day was a huge success with some very interesting and informative presentations.”

A leader in the field of IT!

A leader in the field of IT!

Holker IT have secured a huge contract to provide full IT support to a UK leader in the manufacture of livestock animal feed.

Dugdale Nutrition, one of Lancashire’s proudest family businesses and innovators in the ruminant sector for over 160 years, has farmed out their support contract to Holker IT.

Operating primarily from their main base in Bellman Mill, Salthill, Clitheroe, Dugdale Nutrition has enjoyed unprecedented growth in recent years, leading to the opening of a second site in Speke, Merseyside.

Matthew Collinge, IT Manager at Dugdale Nutrition, said: “The pace of business today means that having the right level of IT is paramount. We utilise a demanding 24/7 operation and need to be able to rely on systems which run at maximum efficiency at all times.

“Therefore, we have partnered with Holker IT to assist us with all aspects of our growing IT infrastructure at our two sites.

“Together over the coming months we plan to fully utilise information technology across all departments to improve efficiency and provide a dynamic and wide-ranging service to our customers. With Holker, we feel in very safe hands.”

Holker IT will carry out a full review of the IT infrastructure at Dugdale Nutrition, with the aim of delivering significant improvements in performance and resilience, whilst also providing full IT support for the 50 users across both sites.

Holker IT managing director Matthew Metcalfe said: “The heritage of Dugdale Nutrition is there for all to see and it remains a very forward-thinking company with a desire to stay a leader in the UK animal feeds sector.

“The project they initially set us was a challenging one, but one that we are relishing and we are looking forward to a long-term relationship as the firm continues to grow.”

Located in the heart of dairy, beef and sheep farming in the North of England, Dugdale Nutrition supplies animal feeds of the highest quality, with more than £8.5m having been invested in the business over the past decade.

All a far cry from the origins way back in 1850 when John Dugdale bought the grocery and Post Office store in nearby Waddington and quickly expanded into selling grains, oil cakes and by-products … all delivered by train to Clitheroe for collection by horse and cart!

Going up in the IT world!

Going up in the IT world!

A North West leader in scaffolding, mast climbers and hoists has raised the bar in terms of its technology capability after teaming up with Holker IT.

Allied Access – recognised as one of the UK construction sector’s frontrunners for safe, combined access solutions – has made a ‘significant investment’ in state-of-the-art IT at its headquarters in Oldham.

Holker IT has completed a series of projects over a 10-month timeframe, including an email migration, the replacement of an ageing firewall and the installation of a fibre optic link into a new training room housed in a separate building.

“It’s a big deal for us – in every respect,” said Carl Bracken, Finance Director at Allied Access, a progressive firm that has enjoyed remarkable growth since starting out in 1983 from small lock-up premises with just two three-tonne trucks. Now Allied Access is one of the largest independently-owned access companies in the North of England, operating out of multiple sites in Oldham, Preston, St Helens and Cannock.

“We have 35 years’ experience, employ 150 staff and work with some of the biggest names in construction on key infrastructure projects,” added Mr Bracken. “In common with most businesses, our success also depends on how we manage client and their data, so having the right level of IT expertise is paramount.

“Holker IT came strongly recommended and we also knew some of their main people through previous business dealings. What they provide in terms of systems, support, standards, flexibility and value completely ties in with our way of working. We are also aware of the ever-increasing threat of cyber crime and are now looking to Holker IT to help us achieve the Cyber Essentials certification.”

Matthew Metcalfe, managing director at Holker IT, said: “We are delighted to have been entrusted with the IT provision of one of the county’s most progressive companies. Management at Allied Access had some very specific IT requirements and we were mindful of completing the work with minimum disruption as there are a number of users who require remote access.

“It was a complex and challenging assignment, but we managed to achieve it on budget and on time and are hoping for a continuing business partnership with Allied Access.”
